Book Annie to Speak
Millions of North Americans suffer from chronic conditions that doctors and scientists alike cannot adequately explain. All too often patients will hear “I can’t help you” from their physicians as they run out of treatment options for these mysterious illnesses.
Annie Hopper has a global mission. To take the “mystery” out of mysterious illness. Depression, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, multiple chemical sensitivities, food sensitivities, chronic pain, anxiety, postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome and many other chronic and inflammatory illnesses have a common denominator – limbic system impairment. The Dynamic Neural Retraining System focuses on correcting a maladapted fight or flight response within the neural circuits of the limbic system that is at the root of many chronic illnesses.
Because the brain is involved in these illnesses, this does not mean that these illnesses are all ‘in the head’, but rather that recovery, through neuroplasticity, requires that the brain be involved in the rehabilitation and healing process.
Hopper knows what its like to suffer from a mysterious illness that the medical system cannot diagnose or effectively treat. In 2004, while running a successful counseling practice, her health suddenly started to rapidly deteriorate.
Unexplained symptoms like insomnia, headaches, body aches and pains, chronic exhaustion and intolerance to perfumes and household cleaners ensued. After seeing over thirty specialists, toxic overload was the eventual diagnosis.
But even after undergoing various treatments, her symptoms continued to escalate. After three years of extreme suffering that eventually led to homelessness, Hopper deduced that toxic brain trauma was likely at the root of her suffering.
She would go on to devise a neuroplasticity-based therapy that will eventually diminish symptoms of illness by rewiring the neural circuits in the brain.
Hopper also sheds light on the relationship between toxins in our everyday environment and limbic system impairment and disease. She reveals why many traditional therapeutic treatments may not work for people who are suffering with limbic system conditions and how limbic system rehabilitation represents the missing link in health care for many.
Speaking engagements include the Canadian Brain Injury Association, the American Academy of Environmental Medicine, the Canadian Counseling and Psychotherapy Association, the Institute for Functional Medicine, the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health, and the Parliament House, Helsinki, Finland.
