Karen: Mold Illness, EHS, Chronic Pain, IBS, Anxiety, Chemical, Food, Light Sensitivities
Summary
Karen’s health declined rapidly after mold exposure during pregnancy, leading to chronic pain, neurological symptoms, chemical sensitivities, and extreme fatigue that affected every area of her life. Despite extensive medical care and alternative treatments, her condition persisted for years, leaving her isolated and dependent on her family. After discovering DNRS, she began a gradual recovery, regaining function, resilience, and the ability to fully participate in life again. Her story reflects how addressing limbic system impairment and supporting brain rewiring can lead to lasting recovery, even after long-term illness.
When Everything Changed
Before her illness, Karen was living a full and active life.
She was a full-time yoga teacher, newly married, and expecting her first child. Her pregnancy was healthy, and she describes feeling strong, energetic, and happy.
“I was joyful… and I was strong.”
But everything changed when she moved into a new apartment late in her pregnancy—an environment she later discovered was affected by mold.
A Rapid Decline
Soon after moving, Karen began experiencing symptoms.
What started as frequent colds and sinus infections quickly progressed into widespread pain, rashes, insomnia, and severe neurological sensations.
“It felt like electricity… all over my body.”
After giving birth, her condition worsened significantly. She eventually collapsed and was no longer able to function normally. Eating became difficult, and she relied on soft foods for extended periods.
Her symptoms continued for years without resolution.
Losing Independence
As her illness progressed, Karen’s life became increasingly restricted.
She was unable to go out, visit friends, or participate in daily activities. Her husband took on the role of caregiver, managing the household and caring for their daughter.
“I lost my independence. I lost most of my friends.”
Her world became smaller, and she began withdrawing from relationships as her sensitivities increased.
At times, she could detect mold in other people’s homes with surprising accuracy—something she tried to make sense of in any way she could.
“I thought I was developing a psychic gift.”
Finding a New Direction
Karen first learned about DNRS through a naturopath.
During that appointment, she was told that her symptoms could be linked to limbic system dysfunction—something that immediately stood out.
“Everything that you have falls under one category.”
After researching further and hearing others’ experiences, she felt something she hadn’t felt in a long time: Hope.
With the support of her family, she decided to attend the program.
Returning to Life
Karen’s recovery was gradual, built over time through consistent practice.
In the beginning, the changes were subtle—an increase in hope, energy, and emotional stability. Physical improvements followed more slowly.
One early moment stood out. After the program, she entered a store with her husband, and while he reacted to a strong chemical smell, she didn’t notice it at all.
“I said… I don’t care.”
That shift reflected a deeper change in how her system was responding.
Over time, she was able to return to everyday activities—shopping, exercising, attending events, and spending time with her family without restriction.
“I feel that I’m normal again… I feel that I’m Karen again.”
For Karen, the change represents more than recovery.
It’s a return to independence, connection, and a life she once thought she had lost.
