Recovering from Lyme Disease: Crystal’s Journey

For years, Crystal lived in survival mode. Long before she was officially diagnosed with Lyme disease, her body was sending signals that something was deeply wrong. Chronic symptoms slowly became part of her everyday life, affecting her health, her relationships, and her ability to function normally.

When she first heard about the DNRS program nearly a decade ago, she was intrigued by the idea that the nervous system and limbic system could play a role in chronic illness. But at the time, it felt too simple to possibly explain symptoms that had consumed so much of her life.

Instead, she continued searching for answers elsewhere.

Years of Chronic Illness and Lyme Disease

Crystal’s symptoms became progressively more severe over time. Throughout her relationship with her husband, there was always something she couldn’t do, couldn’t eat, or couldn’t tolerate.

Food sensitivities became extreme. Restaurant outings were stressful because her list of “safe foods” kept shrinking. Bread, fruit, dairy, and many other foods triggered reactions. Eventually, she was down to only nine foods she could eat without symptoms.

In 2020, Crystal finally received a true positive Lyme disease diagnosis through standard Western medicine testing. Around the same time, she was also diagnosed with stage four endometriosis.

Her nervous system felt completely dysregulated.

She traveled across the country searching for solutions, seeing doctors from California to New York. Eventually, she spent over $50,000 on stem cell treatment in Mexico, hoping it would finally help her heal.

Instead, she returned home worse than before.

By that point, she had become bedridden. She couldn’t drive. Simple trips to the grocery store caused dizziness and imbalance, especially under fluorescent lights. She reacted to supplements, vitamins, and even sunlight. Her vitamin D levels were dangerously low, yet she believed she was “allergic” to vitamin D because supplements triggered symptoms and sun exposure caused hives.

“It was just a very traumatic situation,” she shared. “I didn’t know if I’d ever be able to return home or go back to work.”

Discovering the Role of the Nervous System

After years of searching for answers, Crystal decided to finally give DNRS a chance.

She committed fully to the program and followed it exactly as instructed.

Almost immediately, something clicked.

As she learned more about limbic system impairment and nervous system dysregulation, she began recognizing long-standing thought patterns rooted in fear and hypervigilance.

Her mind constantly jumped to worst-case scenarios:

“What if this symptom turns into something worse? What if I have this disease? What if something terrible happens?”

For the first time, she understood how chronic stress responses and neural pathways could keep the body stuck in fight-or-flight mode.

“I realized I needed to stop feeding those patterns and create new neural pathways instead,” she explained.

Early Signs of Healing

Within the first week of starting DNRS, Crystal noticed a profound shift.

She woke up feeling rested.

For the first time in years, her body felt calm.

“If your nervous system is stuck in fight or flight, your body doesn’t feel safe enough to heal,” she said.

As her nervous system began regulating, other improvements followed. She started sleeping better. Slowly, she was able to reintroduce foods that once caused reactions. Supplements no longer triggered severe symptoms.

Her body gradually became stronger.

Rather than obsessing over setbacks or symptoms, Crystal focused on continuing the program consistently.

“I just kept telling myself, ‘Don’t look down. Just keep walking this tightrope. Just keep believing because it’s giving me enough results to get here.’”

A Future Doctors Said Was Impossible

One of the most emotional moments in Crystal’s healing journey came when a coach asked her about her vision for the future.

For the first time, she understood how chronic stress responses and neural pathways could keep the body stuck in fight-or-flight mode.

“I realized I needed to stop feeding those patterns and create new neural pathways instead,” she explained.

Crystal’s Message to Others with Lyme Disease

Looking back, Crystal feels deeply grateful for the role DNRS played in her recovery journey from Lyme disease symptoms, nervous system dysregulation, and chronic illness.

“To anyone considering the program, I would say: give it an opportunity and go all in,” she said. “You’re literally creating new pathways in your brain. Why not create them to build the best life possible?”
